Our Vision for the Friends of Hooven Forest
We have put together a (draft) vision for the Friends of Hooven Forest organization in order to clarify our mission and assist everyone working together on this project:
The Friends of Hooven Forest are committed to preserving Hooven Forest as a whole, integrated ecosystem that serves as an environmental, recreational, and social resource for the benefit of the people, animals, plants and ecosystems of the surrounding community, Snohomish County, and the State of Washington.
One of our first efforts toward preserving Hooven Forest is to work with the WA State Department of Natural Resources to create awareness of the value of Hooven Forest beyond its timber and real estate. Learn more here.
Additional Updates and Opportunities to Participate
The Friends of Hooven Forest Steering Committee are working towards a number of additional initiatives. If you have interest in any of them, please reach out to info@hoovenforest.org.
Valuing Hooven Forest - We would like to create a biological inventory, survey the community for use cases of the Forest, and work with professionals to produce a valuation of the intact forest. Our goal is to explore the value of Hooven Forest as a whole, integrated ecosystem in a way that captures its value beyond the conventional "highest and best use" calculations focused on timber and/or as land to be developed.
Hoof It For Hooven - An annual organized, timed run for adults through the forest as a fundraiser to benefit Friends of Hooven Forest.
Educational Walks - a monthly one-hour easy daytime walk through the forest for all ages (children included) that includes fun, interactive, educational activities (scavenger hunt, coloring pages, “Tree Talk”, mushroom identification, forest information, tribal practices information, etc.) led by a volunteer educator.
Summer Potluck/BBQ - An all ages, accessible social get together (perhaps at one of your homes!), perhaps with live music or other entertainment to celebrate the Forest and Community.
